At Google I/O developer conference on May 28, Steve Horowitz, engineering director for Android, demonstrated the touch-screen capabilities of Google’s Mobilephone’s operating system software by using a swiping gesture to light up dots on the demo phone in the form of a “G” to unlock the phone for use. He said users could set up whatever gesture they wanted to serve as a “password” to unlock the phone.
He also demonstrated new features of its mobile phone software, including touch-screen technology, compass capabilities and games.
However, there is no confirmed date when it would finally be available in a phone.
Yet while Android supports touch-screens, they are not necessarily a must on all devices.

The 3G iPhone going to be launched in Australia capable of whopping 42Mbps (according to Telstra) of dowload speed by Christmas this year, which is unheard in mobile world! No wonder apple had given a on/off switch for 3G services in the phone to avoid this high energy draining feature can be disabled! Now more interesting question is how it is going to affect pure broadband service providers. If iPhone works as a modem and provides even half of this speed, those service providers are going to have tough time selling their products or have to upgrade their speed and reduce the service fees. Gizmodo the tech blog has posted that it is almost confirmed now that 3G iphone will be launched on the 9th of June. Apple will be launching this second generation iphone, during WWDC Keynote, according to someone very close to the launch team in Apple. It will be going on sale right after the launch worldover. The interesting news is that the sales policy will be different to the old iphone.

Canada based mobile phone maker Research in Motion today unveiled its latest smartphone offering named Bold. The phone looks more slicker and supposed to be faster and more powerful which targets iPhone with strong business feature sets. It has 3G, 2mp camera and will allow users to do multitasking.

Nasa’s Mars Phoenix lander has travelled 420m miles to date and 2m miles to go to touch down on Mars. It will land on Mars on May 25 hopefully. The landing system used by this satellite is a error prone and risky one. If it lands safely, it will land near an area called Martian North Pole, where it is believed that water or ice is burried beneath the surface.
